Hate to tell you, but the *only* mud code you're going to find is for
TCP/IP.  Though there is one that works over Appletalk on the Mac, I
guess (hadn't thought about that).  You're either going to switch over
to TCP/IP (easy) or totally rewrite the MUD driver (not so easy).

 Well, that's just a weird idea.
 I was wondering about the possibility of setting up a 10 GHz/2 Mbauds EME
link between the US and Europe.
 That'd be fantastic, wouldn't it ? Each time the moon would be up, we could
transfer enormous amount of data...

 Let's assume a 10 W output and a 33 dB dish. Attenuation is something like
280 dB ; so we get -237 dB. We have again the 33 dB gain, so it goes -204 dB
or 446 pV sensitivity.

 That's tough, but why not ?

Hi es tnx for reading this,

I just thinking over if I should purchase a ft840. I know it is for his
class a very well trx, but I am not sure if it is good for amtor and pactor
too. If there is someone who has experience in using that trx by the named
modes (and at all) it would be nice if he tells something about it to me.
May be there is an trx manufactored by otherone which will be better or
cheaper and work as well, please let it know to me too.

misplaced the docs.

However, my connect to n7mrp-6 is no longer via netrom but via
digipeater.

I need to connect to n7mrp-5 via n7mrp-6 as a digipeater.  How do I do

I'm using a Kantronics KAM (both HF and VHF), with my Mac IIfx or PowerBook
170.  I use zTerm part of the time, but have started using the Kantronics
HostMaster software.  If I get any "spare time", I'll work on my own code
some more.

I've used my Newton connected to a KPC-2 to do some mobile packet
twice now, and I have no complaints.  With some practice it could be
very effective.  I mostly tap the on screen keyboard, but the writing
recognition should work fine depending on the data being sent.

I can't speak for the Newton (doesn't have Intel Inside :), but a colleague
and I both have sucessfully operated packet from our HP-100 palmtops (with
a 9V-powered KPC3 and regular HT).  Quite literally, "packet station in a
lunch bag."

My particular favorites are sending packet mail from halfway up the ski slope
(7500') on Mount Hood (near Portland) and from inside the caldera of Crater
Lake (southern Oregon).  AT&T says "You will", but hams can say "I already
do" (albeit at 1200 baud.... :).

Subject: Quick Question on the Ft-5100

     I know that the popular Yaesu FT-5200 does NOT support 9600 baud
packet, but what about the 5100?
     They are both different in circuitry....so...hmmmm. Also, what type
of a jack is on the back of the 5100, and how would one go about hooking
it up to a 5-pin din on say, a PK-96?

Well, then, I'm right. DOS is 95% poorly implemented.

But seriously, consider the list of similarities and you may raise your
estimate. Where did Microsoft get the idea for subdirectories, for
device drivers, for command line stdout redirection and pipes, for a
PATH environment variable (and for environment variables themselves).
The list is pretty long. Many aspects of DOS 2.0 were inspired by unix,
pure and simple.

It's just that they didn't want to implement demand paged virtual memory
or pre-emptive multitasking.

I'd call it memory mis-management --- and Windows is sort of a glorified
shell.

Hey, don't read me wrong. I can hate DOS with the best of 'em. I just
like to point out how similar DOS and Unix are, especially when folks
say that they don't like to use Unix. On the systems I administer I have
a package of aliases and shell scripts that make the Unix command line
work almost exactly like the DOS command line (except, of course, for
Ctrl-Alt-Del, which you don't need). Still, many of my users still
say they'd rather use DOS because it's more user-friendly. Go figure.


(BTW. Drive letters came from CPM, not Unix. I think FCB's came from CPM
too, but I'm not sure. Anybody know? Thank goodness DOS dosen't have
PIP. But wouldn't it be great if it had carriage-return initiated
multitasking like RSX-11m, another CPM inspired OS.)
